Bengaluru, NFAPost: Reliance Jio is said to be foraying into the low-cost laptop market with the introduction of an Android 4G laptop called “JioBook”, according to XDA Developers. It is learnt that Jio may be looking to expand its digital services portfolio by offering access to it on a large-screen device via a cellular connection.
The report adds that Jio could be creating a product based on Qualcomm hardware, albeit with a totally different component and software configuration from the previously proposed model.
JioBook Features and Configuration
Contrary to its earlier proposal of launching a Windows 10-based laptop, Jio is reportedly working on Google’s Android OS-based, fully-customised software called “JioOS”, according to a recent firmware reviewed by XDA.
The prototype model of the proposed low-cost Android laptop is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 processor, which is built on an 11nm chipset that was launched in early 2019.
The low-cost laptop touted as ‘JioBook’ will feature the Snapdragon X12 as its 4G LTE modem and run a native display resolution of 1366×768. There is no word on the actual size of the display though.
The various prototype iterations of JioBook that have surfaced during the testing phases, suggest that we might see the launch of two JioBook models: 2GB RAM with 32GB storage or a 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.
JioBook is expected to go into assembling and production stage sometime around mid-May, according to the XDA report. However, there is no word on its exact launch or release date.
