Team India Captain Virat Kohli scripted yet another century, but this time off the field, as he became the first cricketer in the world to boast about 100 million followers on Instagram.
“Virat Kohli – the first cricket star to hit 100 million followers on Instagram,” the ICC tweeted.
Kohli is also the fourth most followed sportsperson on Instagram after Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentina football captain Lionel Messi and Brazil’s Neymar, in that order.
Kohli is one of the leading batsmen in all forms of cricket and has 27 centuries in Test matches and 43 tons in one-day cricket.
Kohli is the top celebrity brand in India for the fourth consecutive year and his brand value is $237.7 million in 2020, despite Covid pandemic. He has 3 brands in his portfolio.
Kohli had won the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Male Cricketer of the Decade last year. He had also won the ODI men’s Player of the Decade award.
Kohli is the only player in the world to have been voted in the teams of the decade in all formats.
Ronaldo tops the chart with 265 million followers, followed by Messi with 186 million and Neymar with 147 million followers.
The others in the 100 million club are Hollywood actor and former pro-wrestler Dwayne Johnson, American singer-songwriter Beyonce, and Ariana Grande.
