Industry body FICCI has assessed India’s drone and counter-drone market potential up to around Rs 3 lakh crore by 2030.
Defense and Homeland Security could account for 50% of it, a study conducted by FICCI said.
“Many anti-drone systems have also been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs and we are in the process of finalizing the equipment suited to our requirements,” BSF Director General S K Asthana said.
As per military data, there have been as many as 75 sightings of enemy drones along the western front facing Pakistan in 2020.
This has forced the Indian military and border guarding agencies to not only think of having small drones of their own but also use counter-drone technology.
In 2019, there were more than 160 sightings along the western front, Instances of arms, ammunition, and narcotics drop through drones were reported, especially in Punjab and the Jammu sector.
A special discussion was conducted on “Drones & Counter-Drone Opportunities in Defence and Homeland Security” at Aero India 2021.
The discussion delved into the need for drones in future armed conflicts.
Drone technology is being effectively used for not only smuggling activities, but also for surveillance purposes, jamming and bringing down a ‘swarm’ of low flying drones is the latest challenge in warfare.
