Bengaluru, NFAPost: Privacy issue is taking a new turn as Apple is looking at seriously at Facebook accessing its user data and made it clear that Facebook will have to take user permission to access it.
Amid growing Facebook–Apple face-off on the issue of the new privacy features, Apple CEO Tim Cook said they believe users should have the choice over the data that is being collected about them and how it’s used.
Tim Cook said, Facebook can continue to track users across apps and websites as before and that ‘App Tracking Transparency’ in iOS 14 will just require it to ask for users’ permission first.
“We believe users should have the choice over the data that is being collected about them and how it’s used,” said Tim Cook while explaining the new feature from Apple.
The decision of Apple assumes significance as certain companies and apps have made a business model around the user data by tracking them. However, Apple’s latest privacy policy allows users to block advertisers from tracking them.
Facebook is against the very privacy law taking into account the fact that small businesses are getting help from the inputs provided the company. The location data of users help them give insights on businesses around their location and it will translate into circular business for various small businesses registered with Facebook.
According to digital business analyst, if Facebook sees privacy transparency as such a threat to advertisements and other businesses, maybe they need to reflect on the morality of their business models.
With this, Tim Cook has answered Facebook’s questions around data collection in the new iOS and from what seems to be the case, this data collection will still continue as before. Of course, Apple users will now have a greater say in this process, being able to choose which apps to share their data with.
