Bengaluru, NFAPost: Truecaller has reached a milestone of 250 million monthly active users (MAU) and 200 million daily active users (DAU) globally. The company achieved this with its laser focus on service delivery and customer trust.
It is interesting to note that, the company has been claiming India as its biggest market and has recorded 185 million MAU and 150 million DAU from the country. As per the above-mentioned figures, India has contributed 74% in MAU and 75% in Truecaller’s DAU.
Swedish tech company owned by True Software Scandinavia AB also added 50 million MAUs in eight months. It had reached 200 million MAU in February 2020 and 100 million MAU in April 2018.
Effective communication
Expressing happiness over the development, Truecaller CEO and Co-founder Alan Mamedi says Truecaller was built with the vision to make communication more effective for everyone and this is what has fueled this spectacular growth over the years.
“This vision started with caller ID but now also offers so much more including SMS blocking and even digital loans,” said Truecaller CEO and Co-founder Alan Mamedi.
The 185 million MAUs in India places Truecaller among the top MAU commanding platforms in the country along with WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger and Youtube.
Short video entertainment
TikTok used to have over 200 million MAUs. However, the Bytedance-owned short video entertainment app has been banned in India since the last week of June. ShareChat that recently launched TikTok’s clone Moj also claimed to cross 160 million monthly active users in the second half of the last month.
Though the company is optimistic about monetization via lending, experts believe that the lending market is overcrowded and it’s unlikely to build sizable revenue via offering third party loans. Advertising and subscription will be major revenue channels for Truecaller.
Founded by Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam in 2009, Truecaller was initially launched on Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile on 1 July 2009. It was released for Android and Apple iPhone on 23 September 2009, for RIM Blackberry on 27 February 2012, for Windows Phone on 1 March 2012, and for Nokia Series 40 on 3 September 2012.
Truemessenger
On 7 July 2015 Truecaller launched its SMS app called Truemessenger exclusively in India. Truemessenger enables users to identify the sender of SMS messages. This launch was aimed at increasing the company’s user base in India. The company also announced last year to go ahead with its IPO plan on 2022.
Truecaller commenced its development centre operations in Bengaluru in February 2017, with an aim to focus on its expanding India business.
During the inauguration of the centre Truecaller co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer Nami Zarringhalam had said India is a growth centre for the company. The Truecaller founder said India has a vibrant ecosystem of mobile phones and Internet penetration.
