Bengaluru NFAPost: Following the recent spate of rumours, Intel has finally unveiled its 11th gen Tiger Lake CPUs in the thin and light category of laptops. The new chip is based on the 10nm process with significant performance gains over the current 10th gen processors.

The new chip is specifically tailored for better performance in AI-based tasks with up to 20% quicker processing times in office productivity tasks, 2x faster with live video-game streaming and 2.7x faster in content creation as opposed to its rival products in real-world applications.

Although there is no word on its actual performance in real-world benchmarks, the new Tiger Lake CPUs can clock as high as 4.8 GHz while the 10th gen models maxed out at 4.0 GHz.

Despite the higher processing speeds the newer processors are rated to consume similar wattage of power as its predecessors. This is due to its new 10nm architecture that’s based on Intel’s latest ‘SuperFin’ tech.

With due credit to its new Xe-LP graphics processor architecture, it can pack 50% more transistors with the ability to outperform 90% of dedicated graphics cards in the thin-and-light laptop segment, including the Nvidia MX150.

The advent of Tiger Lake CPUs marks a new era in the evolution of integrated graphics as they can now match or even exceed the overall performance capabilities of a discrete graphics card.

However, the Iris Xe graphics tech is currently limited to Core i5 and later variants. In other words, only i7 processors are currently optimised for delivering maximum performance with Tiger Lake CPU architecture.

On the connectivity front, the new chipset offers Thunderbolt 4 and PCIe Gen4 support with superior performance with accessories like dedicated/external graphics cards. AI based noise suppression, improved video decoding and background blur are a few of its notable features.

A new brand of laptops known as ‘Intel Evo’, are already in the making. These laptops conform to the company’s highest performance standards and benchmark metrics as outlined below:

  • Responsive operation in battery mode
  • Wake up from sleep in less than 1 second
  • Nine plus hours of ‘real-world’ battery life with an FHD display
  • Quick Charge feature to offer up to four hours of use in under 30 minutes

Intel has also rebranded its logo design, besides confirming a few of the thin-and-light laptop models that are due for release later this year. Samsung Galaxy Book Flex G, Asus Zenbook Flip S, Lenovo Yoga 9i and Acer Swift 5 are a few among the 20 plus verified laptop designs coming up this year.
