Amritsar, NFAPost: In an effort to contain spread of COVID-19, Signify Innovations India Ltd, formerly known as Philips Lighting India Ltd, has launched portable Philips UV-C Disinfection system for homes.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has created fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and needs. Advanced hygiene standards and minimal contact has become a priority for everyone at home and at work. To cater to this need, Signify has launched the Philips UV-C Disinfection system,” the company said in a statement today.
The newly launched disinfection system range will be available in three variants of 10 ltr, 15 ltr, and 30 ltr capacity, priced at 7,990 rupees, 9,990 rupees, and 11,990 rupees, respectively, the company said, adding that the product would be initially available on leading e-commerce platforms and through select Philips Smart light Hubs.
According to Signify Innovations, the disinfection system uses the UV-C radiation technology, which has been validated to effectively inactivate SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
The company had partnered with National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories at Boston University to conduct the first-of-its-kind research to conclusively validate the UV-C light inactivates the virus that causes COVID-19, Signify Innovations Vice Chairman and Managing Director Sumit Joshi said.
Signify Innovations says that the product, which disinfects frequently touched objects and personal items such as fruits and vegetables, packaged food, baby products, mobile phones, keys, and laptop, among others, is easy to use, low maintenance, and portable.
“As the product has the light source in enclosed space, it takes approximately two to eight minutes for disinfection depending upon the size of the object,” the company added.
The company said that although exposure to UV-C radiation can result in damage to the skin and eyes of humans and animals, Philips UV-C Disinfection system has been designed to be completely safe for home use.
“It has a special glass door that blocks and contains all UV-C radiation within the UV-C disinfection system and allows only visible light to pass through it. It also has an inbuilt user safety feature of auto cut-off for the UV-C lamp, if the door is accidently opened,” the company said.
It also added that the UV-C exposure on fruits and vegetables also extends their shelf-life, keeping them fresh for longer periods.
