Amritsar, NFAPost: Mirroring ‘stories’ or ‘status’ feature of social media and messaging platforms Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, micro-blogging site Twitter has also launched its much-anticipated ‘Fleets’ feature for Indian users.
Fleets will allow Twitteratis to share a tweet, photos, and even videos that will appear on their profile for only 24 hours.
The social media platform had last month announced a gradual global roll out of Fleets. The company said that they have been listening to feedback and working on the same.
On Tuesday, Twitter Product Lead Kayvon Beykpour announced its launch for the Indian users. Fleets was first rolled out for users in Brazil in March.
Twitter said that it had started testing the new way of having conversations, because some people feel insecure to tweet as the posts are public, permanent and also exhibit public engagement counts, such as likes and retweets.
Unlike Tweets, Fleets would not get Retweets, Likes, or public replies. Users can only react to any Fleets with Direct Messages. Fleets can be accessed by tapping on a user’s avatar, rather than showing up on their timeline.
Commenting on the similarities with Stories format, Beykpour had tweeted in March “I know what you’re thinking: “THIS SOUNDS A LOT LIKE STORIES!”. Yes, there are many similarities with the Stories format that will feel familiar to people. There are also a few intentional differences to make the experience more focused on sharing and seeing people’s thoughts.”
