Bengaluru, NAPost: NoPo Nanotechnologies, a Bengaluru based startup which manufactures carbon nanotube, is exploring collaboration with US company Lockheed Martin.
Carbon nanotube, physical modification of Carbon, is theoretically 100 times stronger and 10 times lighter than steel. The material has applications in making composite material and coating that can be used in extreme conditions.
Talking to NFAPost, NoPo Nanotechnologies founder Gangadhar Reddy said the company began its journey with Lockheed Martin after winning the DST-Lockheed Martin – Tata Trusts India Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP) 2.0 in 2017.
“We are in discussions for potential qualification of NOPO as a supplier to Lockheed Martin,” he said to NFAPost.
Reddy added that the qualification of NOPO Carbon Nanotube material as a coating for various spacecraft of Lockheed Martin will ensure the product development of the company and business collaboration.
The carbon nanotube-based composites can be used as a structural material. “Besides defence and aerospace application, the material can be used in satellite and space applications where the weight of the material is an important part,” said Reddy.
